  1. Physical and Human Resources
    • Work with campus organizations to discuss plans for a new building-Tom will chair the committee-potential opens evaluated as they arise

  2. Finances
    • Secure SJU Academic Affairs funding of Environmental Education Coordinator position-all salaries are now under Academic Affairs (director, assistant director, EE fellow, and OC fellow) with portion of the fellows’ salaries paid for by CSB)
    • Increase the number of grants applied for-Emily will be writing grant applications for at least 5 grants this year, with the possibility of 2-3 more, depending on funding sources

  4. preK-12
    • Reach 4800 students with the environmental education programming-fall 2005 had 2086 preK-12 students out for classes with 1 week of winter classes, 4 weeks of maple syrup classes and 6 weeks of spring classes left this year
    • Hold a ‘winter class preview week’ for at least 5 teachers from 5 different schools-Feb 13th-17th is winter class week with 9 classrooms from 4 different schools participating
    • Re-evaluate 4th and 5th grade Arboretum curriculum and trunks-4th and 5th grade curricula were restructured summer 05 and the trunks will be re-evaluated summer 06
    • Develop separate Kindergarten and 1st grade trunks and curriculum-‘Sensory Exploration and Trees’ Kindergarten curriculum and ‘The Life of Plants’ 1st grade curriculum were established fall 05 and K and 1st grade trunks will be in the schools this spring

    CSB/SJU
    • Provide monthly activities for students-September: Timberdash run; October: Collegeville Colors (not student specific) ; November: Outdoor week, Polar Bear Plunge, Buckthorn pull; December: Open House (student members); January: Moonlight Snowshoe;
    • Add Arboretum to admissions tour and explore funding options with schools they are targeting (pilot 1 metro HS program)-student tour guides now open trail map and talk about Arboretum options on their tours; pilot program with metro HS still needs to be pursued
    • Pursue the education major’s science methods classes to assist with teaching EE classes-still needs to be pursued
    • Develop a ‘menu’ of classes and possibilities for the CSB/SJU faculty orientation packet-letter to all professors being sent out in February but specifics for faculty orientation still needs to be pursued

    Community
    • Compile a listing of possible adult classes we could teach/sponsor-initial list has been generated; need to survey members and professors for classes they could teach
    • Develop a template for an adult retreat-attempted in summer 05 but retreat did not happen; will try a student retreat in summer 06

  5. Stewardship
      • Continue to partner and provide support to Avon Hills Initiative-February 4th conference included over 50 speakers and participants
      • Explore potential wind power options-conference on wind power is being hosted by the Abbey; Tom still serving on their committee
      • Develop a definition of ‘land use’-still needs to be pursued
      • Assist with the chapel and chapel trail reconstruction-Tom is serving on the committee for this project; have meet with the design committee to discuss options

  6. Visability
    • Partner with CSB/SJU to promote Arboretum during their events on campus-currently working on partnering with other groups such as OLC, campus ministry, Project LOGOS, and also pursuing the option of having an Arboretum student club on campus
    • Explore option of selling ads in the newsletter-still needs to be pursued
    • Maintain website and adjust to growing usage and needs-will be looking at website restructuring in February and March

  7. Memberships
      • Increase the number of paid memberships by 50 per year-started FY 06 with 276 memberships and currently have at least 316 memberships; 10 more needed to reach 50
      • Further develop membership benefits and giving options-explored possibility of reciprocal admission program with American Horticultural Society but are not able to participate; still need to pursue other options
