Major: History
Year of Graduation: 2005
Graduate School:
Currently I am working on my graduate studies for a Master’s of Science degree in Archeology at the University of Edinburgh.
Previous Experience:
I went to London through the BUNAC program after graduation. Between study abroad in London and participating in BUNAC, I have had the pleasure of travelling to nearly all of Europe as well as Northern Africa.
What is BUNAC and where does BUNAC allow you to work?
BUNAC stands for British Universities North America Club; this organization helps students receive British work visas for a 6-month period. There are BUNAC offices in London and Edinburgh that help you find work anywhere in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and North Ireland) once you’ve been through orientation at one of the offices. In addition to finding work, the offices are great resources for helping you to find housing, opening bank accounts and those lovely things called taxes.
How did you hear about the BUNAC program?
I studied abroad in London during my junior year of college (Spring 2004). During this time I absolutely fell in love with the city and culture of the UK and knew I wanted to go back after graduation. I had heard about BUNAC from my advisor Cynthia Curran. We had been discussing UK grad schools and she suggested that I do this first to get a good feel for the country and potentially check out some schools as well.
I elected to stay in London since I had loved the city so much when I was there for study abroad a year and a half earlier. On my BUNAC visa, I worked as a caterer and an office employee through many different agencies to string together steady work. I also volunteered in a museum.
Do you have plans to return to the States after you finish your degree?
At this time, I have no immediate plans to return; I can stay for an additional two years once I’ve completed my studies.
