201 Introduction to Coaching. (1)

General overview of coaching with an emphasis on the commitment, expectations, course of study and various opportunities. Highly recommended to take early in the program.

 

202 Sport Psychology. (1)

Developing a coaching philosophy, learning how to help athletes use their psychic energy, manage stress, improve attention skills and set goals. Fall.

 

203 Sport Skills. (1)

How to analyze and present skills, work on difficult skills, correct errors and provide feedback to the athlete.

 

204 Sport Nutrition and Drugs. (1)

Role of various nutrients in sport performance as well as weight and body composition. Role of drug use in sports and the effects. Define and describe a variety of drugs athletes may encounter. Spring.

 

205 Sport Administration. (1)

Learn how to gain control over the sport environment, key components of organization and essential skills of a coach.

 

206 Time Management. (1)

Evaluate own use of time and time management areas for coaching that need self-improvement. How to set goals, priorities and limits as well as direction for the students' sport program. Spring.

 

207 Sport Injuries. (3)

Understanding the student athletic trainer’s role in the prevention and care of sports-related injuries, basic taping techniques, emergency care and other basic athletic training clinical proficiencies. Course is taught by a certified athletic trainer. Practical labs done in class as well as lecture. Fee of $20. Fall and spring.

 

208 Sports Physiology. (2)

Learn the principles of training and how to apply them to muscle and energy components. How to formulate seasonal training programs and guide athletes to peak performances. Fall.

 

209 Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries. (2)

Understanding the coach’s role in the prevention and care of sports-related injuries, basic taping techniques. Practical labs done in class as well as lecture. Fee of $20. (Replacement of 207 course for coaches only.) Spring.

 

215 Introduction to Sports Medicine. (1)

The course will provide the student with information about the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and the athletic training profession as well as the CSB/SJU internship program and minor. Fall and spring.

 

217 Personal Health. (2)

Focuses on sports specific health problems that are facing today's society. Emphasis is on the knowledge essential for maintaining a healthy life-style in relationship to sport participation. Spring.

 

259 Theory of Coaching Girl’s/Women’s Hockey. (1)

Advanced skills, strategy, theories of team play of girl’s and women’s ice hockey. Practice planning and drill work, game preparation, as well as game rules. Current issues and problems in the sport. Fall, alternate years.

 

260 Theory of Coaching Football. (1)

Advanced skills, strategy, theories of team play of football. Practice planning and drill work, game preparation, as well as game rules. Current issues and problems in the sport. Spring.

 

261 Theory of Coaching Basketball. (1)

Advanced skills, strategy, theories of team play of basketball. Practice planning and drill work, game preparation, as well as game rules. Fall, alternate years.

 

262 Theory of Coaching Boy’s/Men’s Hockey. (1)

Advanced skills, strategy, theories of team play of boy’s and men’s ice hockey. Practice planning and drill work, game preparation, as well as game rules. Current issues and problems in the sport. Spring, alternate years.

 

263 Theory of Coaching Track and Cross Country. (1)

Advanced skills, strategy, theories of track and field and cross country. Practice planning and drill work, meet preparation, as well as competition rules. Current issues and problems in the sport. Fall, alternate years.

Advanced skills, strategy, theories of team play of baseball. Practice planning and drill work, game preparation, as well as game rules. Current issues and problems in the sport. Spring, alternate years.

Advanced skills, strategy, theories of wrestling. Practice planning and drill work, match preparation, as well as competition rules. Current issues and problems in the sport. Fall, alternate years.
