Teaching Chemistry, Physics and Physical Science at St. Paul Academy and Summit School, St. Paul, MN
Richard Swanson writes:
I worked as a technical service chemist for Cortec Corporation (later a division of Sealed Air Corporation) for two years after graduation. I then left corporate chemistry and returned to the University of Minnesota to earn a teaching license in chemistry and physics. Since 1988, I have been teaching chemistry, physics and physical science at St. Paul Academy and Summit School in St. Paul, MN. I recently began a summer appointment as instructor in General Chemistry at Inver Hills Community College.
Last November, I presented a paper at the Third International History and Philosophy of Science Education Conference in Minneapolis, on "The Electrical Atom," in which I presented the historical work leading up to Thomson's establishment of the electron as an entity, as well as a series of high school level lesson plans pertaining to the topic. This topic was the focus of my Master's project, which I completed last July.
