Goals and Objectives

Goal 1. The primary goal of the CSB/SJU Herbarium is to maintain and improve our permanent and teaching collections. Our specific objectives are to:

• continue to engage in standard herbarium practices such as mounting, accessioning and filing specimens;
• build our collections by trading with other institutions/collectors and collecting additional specimens;
• monitor and control pest populations;
• develop and maintain a computerized database of plants in our permanent collections;
• obtain additional cabinets as needed

Goal 2. An important goal of the CSB/SJU Herbarium is to create an inviting botanical environment for students and other visitors. Specifically, our objectives are to:

• prepare displays for the herbarium and hallway cabinets
• design a logo for the Herbarium

Goal 3. A final goal of the CSB/SJU Herbarium is to provide educational activities and programs in botany for the campus community and public. This goal will be achieved by:

• developing programs such as "Halloween Science" and to sponsor botany lectures, field trips, workshops and/or a Wildflower Festival.
• develop an activity for elementary school visitors to the Herbarium
• increase the public and campus awareness of the Herbarium through articles in campus publications, a newsletter, or displays.
