Fine Arts in London - May 2010

Program Description

London, England: One of the most vibrant centers of the arts in the world!

Spend a full two weeks exploring the galleries and performance spaces that have made this city famous.  We will attend music and theatre performances, along with visits to famous art galleries.  There will also be time for you to explore this fabulous city on your own.

The group will reside in Kensington, a very upscale neighborhood in the heart of London, near Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens and Buckingham Palace.  Transportation is nearby, easy to navigate and included in the cost of the program.  The director and instructor for this course is Greg Walker of the CSB|SJU Music Department.  Greg directed this program in 2007 and 2008, and has twice directed the semester-long program in London.

Performances will include the London Symphony Orchestra at Barbican Centre and a major musical in the West End.  Theatre performances are abundant and the exact shows will depend on the schedules in May, but will include plays at both large and small venues.  There are numerous free music recitals and beautiful Choral Evensong Services at Westminster Abbey, St. Paul's Cathedral, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, and many more.  Art galleries will include the National Gallery, British Museum, and the Tate Modern.  We will also visit the Tower of London, ride the London Eye and take walking tours with John Makey, the Academic Liaison for our semester-long program.  An afternoon tour of Hampton Court, and a river trip downstream to Greenwich will be arranged.  We will travel out of London on at least one day, to Dover and Canterbury.  It will be a busy, but very exciting two weeks!

This is a Fine Arts (FA) designated core course.

Please contact Professor Walker for questions or to Apply!

On-line forms for Education Abroad

Before departure, forms for medical disclosure of your health, along with emergency contact information need to be filled out and submitted to the Education Abroad office.  You can fill these out on-line.  The waiver of liability should be printed and signed by you and your parents.  The completed, signed form should then be brought to the Education Abroad office in the basement of CSB Main (GOO4).  All information referred to in the waiver is found in the various PDF files at that web site.

A schedule of group events and performances for May, 2008 is posted below and will give you a good idea of what happens in these two weeks.  Schedule and cost are subject to change, but the course fee for 2008 was $3200, plus tuition for 2 academic credits.  The course fee for 2010 will be approximately the same.  This course is FA approved.
