November 20: Betty Schnettler, the Director of Partnerships and Services at United Way of Central Minnesota, joined students at the IWL for November's Lunch with a Leader. Betty shared her experiences of working in a non-profit and answered questions from the group.

November 21: A volunteer opportunity will be held by the Institute for Women's Leadership helping the Benedictine Sisters in the reorganization of their kitchen and pantry. Contact the IWL at iwl@csbsju.edu if you are interested in participating!

October 2009:

October 8-11: Women's Expeditions traveled to South Dakota. Nine Bennies went on a hiking and camping trip in the Badlands and Wind Caves in Western South Dakota. The theme was "Blaze Your Own Trail" and participants were encouraged to take a leadership role in the outdoors, to push their comfort zones, and to take physical risks.

October 12: A discussion was held in the IWL on women's sexual health as a part of the Women's Healthy Choices series. Students were encouraged to reflect on their personal values and morals to make educated decisions concerning personal intimacy. By having healthy and happy bodies, women can live their leadership potential to the fullest. This discussion was facilitated by theology professor, Dr. Kathryn Cox.

October 15: The IWL co-sponsored the event "From the Pews in the Back: Young Women and Catholicism" based on the book with the same title. From the Pews in the Back explores young women and their relationship with the Church, from all walks of life and all stages of spirituality. The event consisted of an introduction by the editors, a reading by a contributing author, and time for questions. The IWL purchased books and a reading group met twice.

October 16: Kate Dugan joined us for Lunch with a Leader. Kate is a CSB Alumnae who compiled, edited and released the book From the Pews in the Back. Kate shared her experiences as an editor of the book and the group discussed issues surrounding young women and Catholicism.

October 22: The IWL had two informational meetings about the trip to Ireland in May 2010. Students who attended the meeting were very interested in learning about Irish women leaders and expressed interest in applying for the experience.

October 30: The IWL had a Halloween Open House. The purpose of this event was to inform and excite students about our programs for the rest of the semester. We also wanted to open up the IWL as a safe space for students to visit. Cookies and punch were available and students had the opportunity to paint small gourds.
