  • If you have items needing postage very late in the day (after 4:00 p.m.) it is helpful to call ahead @2097.
  • It is helpful if your International pieces are separated from your U.S. Mail.

Bulk Mailings

Campus Bulk Mailings

  • Mailings that are sent to every department or faculty and staff member on campus.
  • Many departments request that informational mailings about events on campus should be limited to one or two copies per department and posted in each department.  A mailing distributed in this fashion would require 75 copies, with a note asking to distribute items to each department.
  • For items that require one to every employee and labels are not used, the count is 450 pieces.
  • Labeled on campus mailings should be sorted in department order to speed delivery.

U.S. Outgoing Bulk Mail

  • Consists of a minimum of 200 pieces of mail that are the exact same weight, size, and content.
  • The information cannot be personal in nature.
  • Pieces must be kept in zip code order and processed in accordance with U.S. Postal regulations.
  • The current basic postage rate for bulk mail letters is $0.165, and $0.230 for flats.
  • Delivery times vary, up to one week in state and up to two weeks out of state.
  • Advanced notice is required to effectively handle and process large or specialized mailings.  Large mailings are considered as any mailing consisting of 2000 pieces or more.

The SJU Mail Center provides a service to process your bulk mailings from start to finish.  See services available.

  • The Campus Mail Center will collect any unused old envelopes that you may have, to convert them.  If you need some of these envelopes please ask the delivery person to add some to your next stop.
  • Using these envelopes makes it much easier for the Mail Center Staff to sort and deliver mail.
  • Small items placed loosely into the mail system risk being caught up in another piece of mail.
  • Envelopes that are written all over make it difficult to know who the current recipient should be.
  • Remember to provide a complete address i.e. name, department, and campus.
Special Services Available for Outgoing Mail:

(Contact the Collegeville Post Office for exact pricing on services requested @ 2760)

Certified Mail - Certified mail provides a mailing receipt, and a record of delivery is kept at the recipient's post office. A return receipt, to provide the sender with proof of delivery, may also be purchased for an additional fee. Certified mail service is available only for First-Class Mail or Priority Mail. Certified mail is not available for international mail. For valuables and irreplaceable items, use insured or registered mail.

Insured Mail - You can purchase insurance coverage up to $5,000 for Standard mail, as well as Standard mail matter mailed at the Priority Mail or First-Class Mail rate. For articles insured for more than $50, a receipt of delivery is signed by the recipient and filed at the delivery post office. Do not insure your packages for more than their value. The amount of insurance coverage for loss will be the actual value, less depreciation. Claims are settled from the receipt of purchase. Cost varies according to the value of the item.

Return Receipt - This is the sender's proof of delivery. A return receipt can be purchased for mail sent COD, Express Mail, insured for more than $50, or registered or certified. The return receipt shows who signed for the item and the date it was delivered. (Unless Prohibited by Law).

Registered Mail - Registered mail is the most secure option offered by the Postal Service. It provides added protection for valuable and important mail. Registered articles are placed under tight security from the point of mailing to the delivery office. Insurance can be purchased on domestic registered mail up to $25,000 at the option of the mailer. Return receipt and restricted delivery services are available for additional fees.
