Preparing for Life After CSB/SJU
Priority !!!!
If you are a junior/senior then make sure you go to Career Services and get your CV (curriculum vitae) critiqued. If you want to participate in the the Roundtables you must have it done by 15 September.
Visiting Heidi Harlander (at SJU) is best as she is very familiar with jobs and how a CV should look, especially for STEM folks (Science Technology Engineering and Math). Sample resumes are available on-line http://www.csbsju.edu/career/default.htm
I cannot tell you enough that you should get on E-link. It is only available to students but there are not only job listings but also alumnae/alumni contacts who WANT to be contacted about working at their particular job and company. It is an invaluable resource.
Summer Internships and job interviews begin early in the fall (mid-September ... see below for specifics).
For those to be seniors, if you think you may want to teach in a public school but do not have the background there is always Teach for America (very competitive to get into, as you are aware). There is also http://www.woodrow.org/fellowships/teaching/indiana/ which is Woodrow Wilson Fellows and they are accepting applications.
Otherwise, as you are aware, at the bottom of my webpage www.users.csbsju.edu/~knairn there is a link to potential career opportunities and websites with information. I have not yet updated it for the coming semester. But if you are interested in a government internship or job (NSA, NASA, Sandia, Lawrence Livermore or Lawrence Berkeley) they have EARLY (typically OCTOBER) application deadlines. Take a look at the websites and get letters of recommendation soon.
Now for the up-to-date information I just received from Career Services.
Notice the deadlines and (highly recommended) suggestions.
Again: Math majors wanting to participate in the Roundtables should have their professional resume ready by no later than Sept. 15th.

The Government Fair provides students with an opportunity to learn about positions (jobs, internships) within the federal, state, county, and city level and about the application process. Largest employer in the US is the government; the government has lots of needs for quantitative types.
- Government Job and Internship Fair: October 26th, 10 - 3:00, U of MN, Coffman Memorial Student Union.
- Career EXPO: November 11th, Gorecki. Seminars - 10-5:00, Fair 2:30-5:30, Networking Reception 6:00. Seminar topics will include the MBA Forum, Standing Out in the Hiring (jobs, internships) process, Connecting to Small and Medium Sized Companies (for jobs and internships), Careers in Government, Green Careers, Entrpreneurship, Consulting Careers, and more. Approximately 45 organizations will be available at the Fair to talk to students about careers, preparation for the internship/job search, etc .... The reception is a great place for students to network which is always critical; a great opportunity for students to get comfortable with the process. Alums will present at the Seminars, represent the organizations at the Fair, and serve as the Networkers.
