Image Archive

This site provides images of many common pollen grains and mold spores.  Pollens are listed alphabetically by common name while molds are listed alphabetically by genus.  Follow the link for each pollen for a summary page containing information on pollen structure, characteristics, and pictures.  There may be two types of pictures in each summary page.  Thumbnails are images that have been taken by either B. Hoffman or M. Zenzen with a Nikon CoolPix 4500 and Zarf adapter.  The pollen grains in our images appear red because they have been stained with Calberla's solution.  Dr. M. Davis images are images that were scanned from photographs that were gifts from Dr. M. Davis, University of Minnesota, St. Paul, MN.  Many of the UMD images provide an LO analysis of the grain.
