As part of the Fighting Saints Battalion’s efforts to serve the community, Cadets from all four year groups supported the annual Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Tournament held January 23rd on Gull Lake, Baxter, MN. Cadets rose early Saturday morning to see Minnesota at its finest, with temperatures reaching as low as -18° F.

The FSB’s mission was to maintain the perimeter of the contest area to ensure the rules of the contest were followed. Cadets were also tasked with conducting spot checks of contestants as they entered the area, in order to prevent the entry of contraband items such as glass bottles. The contestants numbered in the thousands!
The final and most daunting task came at the end of the tournament when Cadet and cadre were in charge of organizing the bus transportation for contestants. This involved quickly and efficiently organizing thousands of contestants onto school buses for transportation back to their cars, a task the FSB accomplished flawlessly. Strong winds blowing across wide open terrain and long hours made the day quite challenging, but the Cadet persevered to accomplish their mission.

Officials had nothing but good things to say about the hard work and dedication displayed by these young men and women. Every Cadet displayed the self sacrifice and motivation it takes to be a successful leader in the world today. The FSB will undoubtedly be called upon again in the future to help run this event, a call which they will whole heartedly answer!
