Three Hermits

In Celebration of 150 Years of Saint John’s at Collegeville

Set in the late 1800’s The Three Hermits is a delightful story in which a Russian
Orthodox Bishop learns about the value of simple faith from three Hermits who live
on a small island.  Humble prayer can work miracles all around us but our self-image
can obscure them from our vision; this story has a universal message about the Glory
of All Creation.  Composer Stephen Paulus and librettist Michael Dennis Browne
have brought the story to the opera stage in a poignant and moving setting.

The Three Hermits is…
• produced by the CSB/SJU Music Department with support from Saint John’s Abbey.

• features a cast of faculty professionals James McKeel of St. Olaf College, Carolyn Finley, Marcie Hagen, Patricia Kent and Tom Speckhard of CSB/SJU, students and the CSB/SJU Chamber Choir prepared by Axel Theimer.

• directed by Kaarin Johnston, CSB/SJU Theater Department, and conducted by David Arnott, CSB/SJU.
