YTM Counselor Positions

Saint John’s School of Theology·Seminary, in collaboration with the CSB/SJU Department of Theology, invites College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University theology majors and minors to apply for a two-week paid opportunity to learn youth ministry skills through the YTM Program. YTM Summer Institute Counselors learn leadership, supervision, evangelization, small group facilitation, service-learning, and worship skills. The position is designed to help theology majors and minors discern their call to youth ministry and foster their pastoral leadership skills. Applications for YTM Counselor positions are due February 15th. Interviews take place in early March and positions are offered by the end of March.

Position Details

An applicant should aim to:

1. Grow in pastoral ministry and leadership skills.
2. Be a role model (mentor) to high school youth exploring theology, service/justice, and prayer at YTM.
3. Provide supervision to high school youth attending YTM.
4. Have fun and build enthusiasm for theological study and youth ministry.

An applicant should be or have:

1. A theology major or minor with an interest in youth ministry or pastoral ministry or a student employee with leadership development.
2. A student at the College of Saint Benedict or Saint John's University.
3. Leadership experience.
4. Ability to enjoy mentoring high school youth while enforcing rules.
5. A completed criminal background check.

Position responsibilities:

1. Sharing your faith and your love of God and theology with high school youth.
2. Team supervision of fifty youth and specific supervision of eight youth.
3. Small group facilitation.
4. Engaging youth in free time experiences.
5. Supervision of youth during sleep time.
6. Input on planning YTM Summer Institute.
7. Developing and leading YTM Activities

Dates:

YTM Summer Institute:  June 12-26, 2010
Counselor Overnight Planning Retreat:  Friday, March 12 (4 pm) to Saturday, March 13th (6pm)
Counselor Planning Sessions:  March 18th, April 8th, and April 22nd from 4:30 to 6:30 PM
